expand | contract
diptych; view "expand" here

watercolor on 300lb fabriano paper, 20"x20"

continuation of a body of work dealing with life cycles, for my image & text class.
this was also a response to, and indirect attempt to communicate the feeling of, the real life experience of stumbling across animal bones in a field one evening. my boyfriend and i collected them (they were everywhere once we started paying attention) and i was able to draw those same bones from life in "contract". bones are odd things, brittle and fragile in places and unbreakable in others, always smaller than you expect them to be, and they feel and sound like toy blocks if they're knocked against each other.

As always, your work is beautiful! The details of both "contract" and "expand" are stunning. I especially like "contract," reminds me of my human evolution lab in college where I looked at different bones throughout the semester.

That's an amazing work. Such fine control of the soft colors and detail.
I've collected animal skulls here and there all my live. The biggest one is
a horse, and smallest is a cat I think.
