It turned out gorgeous and agree with the other comments on its realistic elements. Native American hair is beautiful and I think you've captured that wonderfully. As I am Native American, I'm curious as to how your research project went. O:
Honestly it was a bit half-assed, it was sort of a blow-off class and I was completely and utterly burned out last semester. I wish I'd researched it more thoroughly because my fascination with many Native American tribes is genuine, but mostly I looked at pictures and focused on visual elements.
Thanks! Yes, it was my first attempt -- I did a tiny one-inch doodle of an 'F' in my sketchbook first and new immediately I wanted to make it a full piece. There was really no planning beyond that, just dove right in.
This amazing artwork has been featured as a part of the "Today's Typography Treats" section in Typographysical appearance 2 - a news article issued by #Digiversity. If you have time, please take a look, there are a lot of interesting things concerning text art in there.
wow it is quite similar! I love you're use of detail and quirky little braided bits though. Unfortunately most of the ones I've seen aren't on the net - I did a graphics course at uni where we had to form a typeface, and heaps of people tried using hair... some of them were photographed, some drawn... I'll try to find some of them for you!
hahahaha why is it that designers and artists are compelled to leave everything for the day before it's due! Not that i judge, i'm one of those procrastinators myself. Firm believer that masterpieces can be made out of pressure and stress
